Welcome to Year 1 Lowry with your class teacher Ms Leonard assisted by Miss Hooker and Mrs Proverbs.

For most children, the thought of commencing year 1 can be an exciting one for them, but perhaps a daunting one for you as your child enters a more formal way of learning. Rest assured, because Year 1 is the most exciting year in the school!

During Year 1, our pupils will be exploring ideas, discovering different ways to learn, and will be enjoying a variety of fantastic and new experiences.

We will endeavour to instil a love of learning in each and every one of the children and to inspire their imaginations using our different topics!

We are lucky to enjoy a large space consisting of two rooms along with a large outdoor learning area linking these two rooms.

Our outdoor area fosters the children’s enjoyment of outdoor learning and has an exciting phonics pond and a large human sized 100 square.

In addition, we have our own flower, vegetable garden and pond, which provides a hands on way for the children to enjoy learning about plants, naming them and looking at their basic structure.

As with the daily phonics, maths and reading that the children would have experienced in Reception, they will be introduced to additional exciting subjects such as science, geography and history. 

It will be a busy year in which we will work hard so that your child can be the best that they can be and reach their full potential, but guaranteed we will have lots of fun along the way.
