Year Three is a special and important year because you move from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 2 and quite a lot of changes take place. For example; a new school uniform, writing in smaller squared math books etc.
The curriculum in Year 3 is really exciting. As well as learning all the subjects you did in Key Stage 1 you will now learn Spanish as well.
We expect that you will use your imagination and creativity across the whole curriculum.
One of the books we study is Gregory Cool by Caroline Binch. This book is set in Trinidad and Tobago and the pupils will be researching on how the Arawaks and the Caribs inhabited the island in 1498 until the Spanish invasion.
They write, diary entries, letters, recounts and descriptions using the following:
1) extending the range of sentences with more than one clause by using a wider range of conjunctions, including: when, if, because
2) choosing nouns or pronouns appropriately for clarity and cohesion and to avoid repetition
3) using and punctuating direct speech
4) using fronted adverbials
In Year 3 we also begin to learn another language. In St Anthony’s we study Spanish and we learn all about the culture as well as speaking the language.
